It’s a little too late in the game to be starting a massive poker portal dedicated to everything about online poker. The large sites like Poker News already have a lock on this.
Your best bet to quick profits is to find a less competitive niche and dominate it. Try starting a site dedicated to nothing but omaha poker, highstakes poker, or both. The possibilities are endless, but the point is to start your own path. Don’t follow what the big guns did. It’s way too frustrating to attempt to get any organic search traffic for highly competitive terms.
Another important thing to think about is how saturated the internet is with “poker reviews, poker bonus offers, poker forums, and player bio’s” Will your site really be any better than pokernews of cardschat? If you think it’s possible then go for it, but realize that it’s a long and treacherous path.
Which would you rather do? Spend tons of money on links and content writers to still not break into the top 100 google results or… Do all of your writing yourself and do simple link exchanges and be all over page one of google.
It is an easy decision for me. I would much rather dominate a niche and see faster results than dump money and time into a site that may take a year to get out of the sandbox.
However, there are always exceptions. Never say never. Stay positive. But most importantly, be realistic.
